What is Whistleblowing anyway?


Whistleblowing deals with situations where a whistleblower raises awareness of a possible illegal act that they have become aware of in the course of their work or similar activity.

Whistleblowing obligations are introduced at European level by EU Directive 2019/1937, and in Czech law by the Whistleblower Protection Act No. 171/2023 Coll., effective from 1 August 2023.

Employers will have to newly ensure the following:

  • Establish a functional internal notification system.
  • Manage the handling and archiving of notifications.
  • Protect the identity of the whistleblower.
  • Comply with legal deadlines.

How it all works in practice


The person responsible for corporate whistleblowing gets a special role in My Up, the Whistleblowing Officer. This person will post the necessary information on the company’s website using a link through which employees and external whistleblowers can report potential violations. Employees can also resolve everything through the My Up app.
